The 2025 PCI 25: No. 22. Mercury

22. Mercury Paint Corporation
Brooklyn, NY
CEO: Jeff Berman
2024 Sales: $32–35 million
Founded in 1947 by Joseph Berman and his two sons, Daniel and Benjamin, and now led by the fourth generation of family ownership, Mercury Paint is New York City’s largest independent paint manufacturer. With two distribution facilities and nearly 100 employees, the company produces over 1.5 million gallons of coatings annually and serves a broad geographic footprint from the NYC metro area to parts of the Mid-Atlantic region.
Mercury manufactures architectural, light industrial and professional flooring coatings under its Mercury Paint, Durashield and Talon Paint brands. These products are formulated to meet OTC Phase II requirements, with <250 g/L VOC levels and no exempt solvents, and are sold directly to end users, OEMs and government agencies. Mercury’s coatings have been specified on iconic infrastructure across New York, including stadiums, bridges, transit hubs and municipal buildings.
In addition to its proprietary brands, Mercury Paint distributes coatings under several other labels through its network of independent dealers, hardware stores and flooring distributors. These include General Coatings, Harco Paint, Marquise Polyurethane, Sampson Paint and Pittsburgh Paints, some of which are manufactured by partner companies. A long-term partnership with PPG has further extended Mercury’s market reach in new construction projects across the city.
Mercury continues to prioritize environmental responsibility through its Go Green program, and maintains deep community ties through local hiring efforts and nonprofit collaborations such as with The Doe Fund.
The company reports $32–35 million in annual sales. This figure may include a mix of proprietary manufacturing and revenue from distributed brands, some of which may not be manufactured by Mercury.
